Privacy Policy

MenuMe ("MenuMe," "we," "us," or "our") helps users filter restaurant menus according to their dietary preferences by allowing them to provide diet information and upload photos of menus. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account or sign in, we collect information such as your email address, display name, and authentication identifiers (e.g., Sign in with Apple or other auth providers).

Dietary Preferences

Diet, allergy, and ingredient preferences you provide (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten‑free, nut‑free) and any exclusions you set. We use these solely to filter menu items.

Images and Extracted Text

  • Menu images you upload.
  • Text extracted from those images (OCR) and any structured data derived from them to enable filtering.
  • We store uploaded images and derived text to provide features such as re‑accessing past menus, improving recognition quality, and enhancing user experience.

Usage Data and Diagnostics

  • Product interactions, feature usage, timestamps.
  • Device data such as device model, OS version, app version, language/region settings.
  • Crash reports and performance data to improve stability and reliability.

Payments/Subscriptions (if applicable)

If you purchase a subscription or in‑app products, payments are processed via Apple In‑App Purchases and/or a subscription manager. We receive non‑sensitive transaction metadata (e.g., product ID, purchase status) but not full payment card details.

Location

We do not collect or store location data.

Marketing

We do not send marketing emails.

2. How We Use Information

  • Provide and improve MenuMe features:
    • Analyze menu images (using OCR/LLM) and return filtered results.
    • Apply your dietary preferences to identify suitable items.
    • Save your preferences and menu history (if enabled) for convenience.
  • Maintain safety, security, and integrity of our services.
  • Debugging, analytics, and crash reporting to improve performance.
  • Customer support and service communications (non‑marketing).

3. Processing and Technologies

On‑Device vs. Cloud Processing

Some processing occurs on your device. Menu image analysis (OCR and language understanding) may occur on our servers and/or trusted third‑party processors to return results.

Automated Decision‑Making

Automated logic applies your dietary preferences to classify menu items as suitable or not. You can update preferences or reprocess menus at any time.

4. Use of OpenAI Services

  • We use OpenAI services to help analyze menu content and format results.
  • We share only the minimum necessary data with OpenAI (e.g., extracted menu text and relevant prompts; we may also send image content or links if required for processing).
  • OpenAI processes this information on our behalf to provide the service. For details on OpenAI's handling of data, see OpenAI's privacy documentation: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy and API data usage: https://openai.com/policies/api-data-usage
  • We configure OpenAI to avoid using your data for model training where such controls are available.

5. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information.

We share information with:

Service Providers

Cloud hosting and storage, OCR/LLM processing (OpenAI), analytics, crash reporting, and customer support tools that process data under contract and are bound to confidentiality and security obligations.

Analytics and Diagnostics

Aggregated or de‑identified data to understand usage and improve features.

Legal, Safety, and Compliance

Where required by law or to protect rights, property, or safety of users, the public, or MenuMe.

Business Transfers

6. Data Retention

  • Account data, dietary preferences, uploaded images, and extracted menu text are retained for as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate business purposes. You can request deletion.
  • Menu images may be stored to enable history, reprocessing, and quality improvement. Where feasible, we minimize retention and may de‑identify data for analytics.
  • Transaction metadata is retained as required for accounting, taxation, and compliance.
  • We delete or de‑identify data when it is no longer necessary.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Access, Correction, Deletion

Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information by contacting us at usemenume@gmail.com. If the app provides in‑app controls, you can also delete saved menus and preferences there.

Permissions

Control camera and photo library permissions via device settings. Some features may not work without certain permissions (e.g., camera for menu capture).

Communications

We send only service or transactional communications as needed (no marketing). You may adjust notification preferences in the app or device settings where applicable.

Region‑Specific Rights

Depending on your location, you may have additional rights (e.g., GDPR for EEA/UK; CCPA/CPRA in California). We honor applicable privacy rights requests.

8. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK users)

  • Performance of a contract (to provide requested services).
  • Legitimate interests (improving services, security, fraud prevention), balanced against your rights.
  • Consent (for optional features where required by law).
  • Compliance with legal obligations.

9. Children's Privacy

MenuMe is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and least‑privilege practices. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

11. International Data Transfers

If we transfer personal data across borders (e.g., to the United States or other countries where our providers operate), we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful mechanisms, as required by applicable law.

12. Third‑Party Services and SDKs

We may integrate third‑party services. Their collection and use of data are governed by their privacy policies. Key services include:

13. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Our services do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" signals. Where legally required, we honor Global Privacy Control signals for opt‑out of sale/sharing (as applicable).

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date at this URL. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as required by law.
